119. A Walking Song

A brief musical interlude from all of this AI stuff and a welcome chance to play with some humans again. I took Carolan along as part of a Phil Langran Trio gig at the Carrington Triangle Folk Club (see Post 79) last Wednesday. My thinking was to play Carolan on A Walking Song, one of Phil’s new songs that I am particularly enjoying right now. It’s the only song in the set where I’m in DADGAD, so having a second guitar ready tuned seemed like a good plan. It sort of worked out that way, though given the heat – it was a hot June night – the tuning had slipped a bit by the time I picked it up on the second half, so Phil and I end up sounding a bit more like a twelve string than I’d anticipated. It was a lovely evening though – a great song, the company of excellent human musicians, a welcoming folk club with talented floor singers, and a warm Summer night with the swifts noisily accompanying us as they flew around the pub at dusk before roosting. A Summer moment to remember.

Here’s us playing A Walking Song. You’ll find the album version featuring Boo Hewedine (no less) on Phil’s recent album Falling Light.
